Two week tour of the Rockies and Moab

SingleTrack Colorado tours are mountain bike holidays for intermediate to advanced mountain bikers. This doesn’t mean you have to be super-fit or be able to jump your bike off a garage roof (in fact we don’t recommend that), it just means that the trails in Colorado and Moab are proper mountain bike trails, not gravel roads. (For more information on how technical the trails are, and how unfit you can be and still get away with it, see the frequently asked questions.)

Tour Summary (see itinerary for full description of rides and towns)
We pick you up from Denver Airport and immediately transfer to Breckenridge, Colorado – a small mountain town two hours drive into the Rockies at an elevation of 9,500’. We spend the next three days riding the best forest and high alpine trails in and around Breckenridge. Then we drive to Crested Butte, stopping on the way to ride the totally epic Monarch Crest trail. Three days of wildflower covered trails in and around Crested Butte follow, including a day off to recuperate and maybe check out the mountain bike hall of fame. Next up we van transfer to the small mountain town of Silvertton, not far from Durango, where we ride the famous Hermosa creek trail. Then it’s time for our second day off, before driving on to Moab, Utah, for three days on the best trails in Moab. We then return to Breckenridge for a final day of classic Colorado singletrack before driving back to Denver for the return trip back home to New Zealand. Phew - 15 days later with 11 days of the best singletrack riding you can shake a stick at.

Accommodation
14 nights in excellent quality chalets and motels are provided. Accommodation is twin share, unless you would like you're own room, in which case we’ll arrange it at a supplementary charge.

Transport
Transport to and from Denver Airport is provided. Transport of you, your gear and your bike is provided throughout the holiday. We have a large comfortable mini-bus for you, and a large hard-sided covered trailer for your bikes and luggage.

Guiding
Full guiding is provided throughout the two week holiday. We provide two guides per group of 7-10 guests. While our holidays are for intermediate to advanced mountain bikers, in our experience there can still be a wide variety of abilities and speeds within this category. In fact even the same rider can feel like riding at different paces on different days. Having two guides increases the ride options we have and allows the group to split into two smaller groups that can travel at different paces, if this is what the group wants to do. For those who feel like cruising: this means you won’t feel like you are holding up the fast ones in the group or feel like you are being left behind. And for those with a fire in your belly: you won’t feel like you are having your style cramped by those riding at a cruisier pace. But in general, the rides are social, so it’s not a case of one group going at ‘World Cup pace’ and leaving the other group behind – we’re still on the same ride, and while we might ride sections of the trail at different paces, we’ll see each other a lot during the day’s ride. In our experience, having two guides helps to ensure you have the best time on your holiday, and of courses it increase the safety of the group when we are in the wilderness.

Meals
Breakfast: all breakfasts are provided. We provide a good mountain biker’s breakfast of cereal, yoghurt, fruit, toast, and juice. If you prefer to eat at a café for breakfast, there will be opportunities to do so (at your cost).

Lunches: we leave lunches to you. Lunch will often consist of a sandwich or similar bready comestible suitable for bringing with you on your ride. Trust us, you don’t want to eat energy bars for lunch for two weeks-euurghh. However, we know where we’ll be in Moab for lunch - the best organic/hippie café serving the freshest salads and lime/tequila pie in Utah…yum!

Dinner: we provide a welcome dinner on Sunday night to relax with your fellow guests, and a farewell dinner on the last Friday night to celebrate your holiday with your new riding buddies, both in excellent local restaurants. For the rest of the holiday, you are free to do your own thing. We know the towns we visit on the tour well so we can direct you to the best local restaurants for excellent pizza & pasta, steaks and other American fare. Luckily we also know a we know a couple of really good Thai and Indian restaurants if you fancy a bit more zing in your food.

Talk to us about any specific tour ideas you have and we'll do our best to make it happen. Available to groups of 7 or more.

The experience I was a part of far exceeded my expectations, both in terms of value for money and the sheer awesomeness of the riding. The tour was operated with military like precision (it almost brings a tear to my eye), yet Carl and Grahame made sure we had the flexibility to alter the programme to suit the needs of the guests. It was the best of both worlds really. Having two passionate guides was obviously a good thing, especially being able to cater for different abilities/desires on the day. And rather than just showing us the way to go on a trail, both guides keep us entertained with their local knowledge and stories. There was just one problem, Colorado has a serious shortage of meat pies!
