About UsSingleTrack Colorado is a small New Zealand owned company. We're passionate about mountain biking, and our aim is to help New Zealanders (and even a few Aussies) experience the best mountain bike riding available in Colorado and Moab. We offer a 14 day mountainbike holiday in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and Moab, Utah. Our two week holiday brings together the very best Colorado singletrack along with the cream of Moab’s unique trails. We provide the accomodation, transport and trails, you provide the legs! SingleTrack Colorado uses a mixture of local American, English, and Kiwi guides who know the Colorado and Moab trails like the backs of their hands.
Carl Patton, Owner/Guide I have been mountain biking for over 18 years now and hold a recognised mountain bike guiding qualification with Scottish Cycling. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to have biked some of the best trails all over the world, including in Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the French Alps, Canada, Costa Rica, and of course the U.S.A. There was even a little serious racing going on in the early days - back in '92 (when suspension forks had an inch and half of travel, and downhill bikes were just cross country bikes with the seat lowered two inches), I represented New Zealand as a Junior in Cross Country and Downhill at the NORBA Championships in Durango, Colorado, and the World Championships in Canada. These days, I'm enjoying the more relaxed feel of racing in the new style of multi-day events like the Transalp Challenge in Europe, the La Ruta de Los Conquistadores in Costa Rica, and the 3 day Odyssey right here in NZ. After some time meddling in central Government as a Policy Advisor (think ‘Yes Minister’), I spent two summer seasons guiding full time in Colorado and Moab. After taking about 150 mountain bikers on some of the best trails in Colorado and Moab, I put together an itinerary for SingleTrack Colorado that hits all the best trails and gives you a real flavour of Coloradan towns. 2009 will be my 5th season guiding in Colorado and Moab - happy trails! Brian Corff, Guide
Brian is our local Coloradan guide. Brian is a native of Oklahoma, but having spent time living in L.A., he escaped the rat race to reside in the adventure-sport yuppie/hippie town of Boulder, Colorado. His first mountain bike ride was on Slickrock, Moab in the early 90s - "we were so unprepared for the desert conditions and the tough riding it was laughable - we ran out of water and food half way around the loop - we almost died out there!" He's more prepared now of course! After a stint focusing on downhilling, Brian has returned to his roots - trail riding his bike in the mountains for hours on end - watch out, he'll put the hurt on your legs if you're not careful! Brian's past employment includes rocket scientist (no really - he made carbon panels for military aircraft) and underwear model (lets leave that right there). Nowadays when he's not guiding for us, he runs his own engineering firm making modified parts for European sports cars. Brian spent several months touring with his mountain bike in New Zealand in 2006 - so he knows some of our own best trails - he also now hankers for some of New Zealand's culinary delicacies like Marmite, lolly cake, and custard squares.
Grahame Baker, Guide
Grahame has been mountain biking since 1990 (his first mountainbike ride was in Colorado!), and leading rides since 1993. He raced cross country at Expert level in the United Kingdom, and now pretends to race as a veteran. Grahame has completed several long distance tours, including an East Coast to West Coast crossing of the United States. He's a veteran of a staggering 18 visits to Moab - he probably knows his way down Porcupine Rim Blindfolded - and 2009 will be his 5th season guiding in the Rockies. Don't be fooled by Grahame's "more gentlemanly" figure - he can, and does, ride hard all day. When not guiding for us, Grahame lectures in Engineering management at a London University. Grahame's choice of rides to lead can often be influenced by beer and brownies. We think it’s important to support trail builders and trail access advocates. This is why SingleTrack Colorado donates 5% of its profits to the International Mountain Bike Association, to help it fight the good fight for trail access. |
